Madresseh Du Dar (Seminary of the Two Doors) is one of the magnificent Timurid era buildings of Mashhad from the era of Shahrukh Shah (Empress Gowharshad’s husband), it’s construction was ordered by Khajeh Yusuf whom built it as a seminary of Quran and was completed in 1442 AD. The school is built in a traditional Persian 4-Iwan plan (four iwans with 2 floors of arcades between them). In 1975 under the Pahlavi government’s Sazman-i-Hifazat (Organization for Restoration), the dilapidated school underwent extensive and needed restorations. Since the 1980’s when the Shrine of Imam Reza was expanded it has been annexed as part of the shrine complex. Although much of the madresseh’s brick work was replaced, many of it’s historic mosaic inscriptions have survived perfectly. The school was given it’s name due it’s 2 main entry portals, one from the NE side, and the other from the SE side along the old bazaar (now demolished), this inscription is located above this same SE iwan, across from it stands the equally beautiful Timurid era Madresseh Parizad.
